2. Clean the outside. A sloppy exterior will make buyersthink you’ve slacked off on interior maintenance as well.Be sure to clean the gutters and pressure wash yourhome’s siding. Rent tools from your local hardware storeor hire a professional to help.

 • A fresh coat of paint, especially in a color thatcontrasts with the home, will make the front doorstand out. 

• Replace faded house numbers so buyers can seethem from the curb. 

• Buy a new welcome mat. It’s an iconic way to letbuyers know they’re invited into your home.

3.  Make needed house repairs. In a buyer’s market, youwant your home to be in the best condition possible.Take care of major defects like broken windows or a leakyroof that could discourage buyers.

8. Eliminate bad odors. Buy an air neutralizer and sprayit often. When showing the home, fill it with invitingbut not overpowering aromas. Strategically place freshflowers or bake a batch of cookies. Nothing says“Home” like the smell fresh baked cookies. 

9. Organize closets and drawers. Messy closets give theappearance that your home doesn’t have enoughstorage space. You never know where a buyermight look when touring a home for sale.
